This presentation introduces clinicians to sensorimotor OCD, a distressing OCD presentation characterized by intrusive hyperawareness of bodily processes such as swallowing, breathing, blinking, heartbeat, or other internal sensations. Clinical research evaluating the efficacy of adapting existing treatment modalities to this unique form of OCD is scarce. Attendees will learn to: 1) distinguish sensorimotor OCD from other other anxiety and obsessive-compulsive related disorders 2) identify common pitfalls in treating individuals with sensorimotor OCD 3) apply Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help patients reduce impairment and re-engage with meaningful life activities.
