Helping professionals often understand racism as individual prejudice or bias, yet racism also operates through institutional patterns, policies, practices, documentation, risk assessments, referrals, safety responses, and access to care. This workshop will help clinicians distinguish between structural racism and institutional racism, with attention to how broader racialized conditions are turned into decisions, labels, care, discipline, punishment, or support within specific organizations. Participants will examine how race-neutral policies can produce racially unequal outcomes and how stock stories and stereotypes may shape professional judgment. The lecture will provide clinicians with practical tools to identify institutional patterns, question dominant narratives, and use counter-story questions to support more anti-racist reflection, documentation, consultation, and decision-making.
