SHEPPARD PRATT PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION MISSION STATEMENT
Sheppard Pratt’s professional education program strives to provide psychiatric education that advances clinical knowledge, enhances competence, performance, and where possible, improves outcomes for patients with psychiatric disorders.
The educational offerings of Sheppard Pratt relate to the management of psychiatric disorders and issues of behavioral health. Because psychiatric disorders have profound somatic effects, and medical illnesses have profound effects on the brain, educational activities of Sheppard Pratt will address systems-based change, mental/somatic co-morbidities and their effects on health, health outcomes, quality of life, function, and ability to work. In addition, advances in neurobiology and clinical developments that explain the concepts underlying drug treatment of psychiatric disorders are important content areas.
Our primary audience includes physicians, nurses, psychologists, social workers, counselors and marriage and family therapists in all practice settings and other primary care clinicians who treat behavioral health and neuropsychiatry disorders.
Our lectures and webinars are a forum that links evidence-based medicine to both recent scientific advances and to challenges facing clinical research and practitioners. Activities focus on the mechanism of disease, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment as well as highlighting new frontiers for scientific focus.
We expect that our educational interventions will improve clinical competence, performance and improve patient outcomes. We expect that learners will report greater confidence in their approach to clinical problems or improvements in observed patient outcomes. We also expect that learners will express their intent to change their behavior and apply newly acquired strategies in their practice.
