This presentation introduces the Happy, Relaxed, and Engaged (HRE) Framework, emphasizing its role in Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) and behavior interventions. Participants will learn to identify key indicators of high-quality HRE states and understand how these conditions enhance behavioral outcomes, emotional regulation, and learning. The session explores the impact of environmental factors on achieving HRE and presents data collection techniques to assess these states. Case study examples will be presented to demonstrate the importance of assessing HRE for students with complex behavioral needs.

This activity is intended for psychologists, social workers, counselors, behavior analysts, and other mental health professionals.

About The Speaker

With over 15 years of experience in the special education field, Megan Anders, PhD, BCBA-D, has worked extensively with individuals with severe disabilities in the school, home, and adult services settings. Megan also works for Sheppard Pratt Schools as a Regional Behavior Services Manager providing consultation and supervision for prospective BCBAs. Dr. Anders holds a master’s degree in special education, a PhD in Applied Behavior Analysis, and is a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst and Licensed Behavior Analyst in Maryland. Dr. Anders is a member of Maryland Association for Behavior Analysis and the Association for Behavior Analysis International.
