About the speakers

Lt Col Meyer is the Chief Medical Officer at Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany.  He has previously served as the Psychiatry Consultant to the US Air Force Surgeon General and Deputy Director of Air Force Psychological Health. He has also served as the Chief of Mental Health research for the Air Force Medical Agency, where he managed an annual research budget of $5.5M with researchers at four institutions.  Dr. Meyer is also a professor of Psychiatry, Neuroscience, and Military & Emergency Medicine at the Uniformed Services University (USUHS).  At USUHS he served as the Psychiatry Clerkship Director and then as the Neuroscience Module Director.  A dedicated educator and researcher, he has published two books, eight chapters, and over forty peer reviewed manuscripts.  He completed a PhD in Health Professions Education, with a focus on the use of Entrustable Professional Activities (EPA) in Undergraduate Medical Education and is an international faculty member in the EPA course, teaching faculty from around the globe.  He has also served as President of the military branch of the American Psychiatric Association (APA) – where he started the Annual TriService Psychiatry Conference and as a District Branch Representative, where he developed resources to ensure all civilian psychiatrists are aware of military mental health standards.  He previously served as the Chief of AF Mental Health Operations and as the Medical Director for the 51^st Mental Health Squadron at Osan Air Base, Republic of Korea.  Building on his operational experience, Dr. Meyer is a course director and author for the Defense Institute for Medical Operation’s (DIMO) “Military Mental Health” and “Disaster Mental Health” courses, which he has delivered to coalition forces around the globe.  As part of this interest, he has also published extensively on military cultural competence.  Most recently his military cultural formulation interview was added to the DSM-5-TR.
