This presentation highlights how innovative technologies can help address persistent challenges in the delivery of evidence-based treatments for childhood obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and anxiety disorders. Drawing on research from Dr. McGuire's clinical research program, the presentation reviews emerging approaches such as telehealth, mobile health applications, gamified digital mental health interventions, personalized treatment planning, and virtual reality exposure therapy. Findings demonstrate the potential of these technologies to increase access to evidence-based therapeutic skills, improve adherence, and enhance treatment effectiveness. Overall, the presentation emphasizes how technologies and intervention approaches can expand access, improve adherence, and optimize outcomes.

About the speaker

Dr. McGuire is the James C. Harris Professor in Developmental Neuropsychiatry and Neuroscience Research. He serves as the Associate Interim Director for the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Director of Research for the Division as well. Dr. McGuire is also the Director of Psychology in Developmental Behavioral Health (DBH) at Kennedy Krieger Institute, and co-directs the Tourette Syndrome Center of Excellence at Kennedy Krieger and Johns Hopkins. Dr. McGuire’s research investigates the processes and mechanisms that underlie the etiology and treatment of OCD, anxiety, Tourette Syndrome, and related disorders (e.g., misophonia) in children, adolescents, and adults using clinical rating scales, physiological markers, and innovative technologies. His work seeks to improve evidence-based treatments to help patients and families achieve optimal therapeutic outcomes. He has published over 150 peer-reviewed publications and co-edited three books. Dr. McGuire has received several national and international awards for his research accomplishments. His program of research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, Tourette Association of America, American Academy of Neurology, Hilda and Preston Davis Foundation, Misophonia Research Fund, and Tiny Blue Dot Foundation.
