Session VI: Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder: The Basics and Beyond in 2024
Obsessive-compulsive disorder is a common and debilitating condition that emerges in childhood and persists for decades unless properly addressed. In recent years, insight has emerged about OCD risk factors and management, but these details are not widely known. Beyond personal effects of OCD, family members are negatively impacted and are frequently drawn into accommodating behaviors. Thus, best management ideally draws from a combination of individual and family-based approaches in addition to medications, as needed.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
After this lecture, registrants will be able to:
- Describe the presentation of and risk factors for OCD.
- Identify the role of family in OCD presentation and treatment.
- Summarize evidence-based OCD treatment.
Target Audience
This activity is intended for physicians, nurses, psychologists, social workers, counselors and other mental health professionals.
