About the speaker

Joyce King is the Program Director for the SSG Parker Gordon Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program at Sheppard Pratt Health System and is responsible for the oversight, implementation, and coordination of suicide prevention services for eligible Veterans and their families. Ms. King is a licensed professional counselor and addictions counselor in the state of Maryland and a national certified counselor through the National Board of Certified Counselors. Ms. King has over 26 years of experience in behavioral health. In addition to her work with the Sheppard Pratt Health System, Ms. King has a small private practice caseload and is a crisis therapist at Johns Hopkins Suburban Hospital in the emergency department.

Ms. King is a proud Air Force Veteran of 16 years, who served honorably as a psychiatric technician, addictions counselor, senior non-commissioned officer, and superintendent for the Behavioral Health Flight at Malcolm Grow Medical Center. Ms. King deployed as a member of the 35th Medical Brigade Combat Stress Team in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. During her military service, Ms. King worked with the Air Force Surgeon General’s office and was instrumental in standing up the Air Force’s Wounded and Ill program in response to the President’s Commission on Care for America’s Returning Wounded Warriors. Ms. King was also hand-selected for the work group responsible for the development of the Air Force’s Deployment Transition Center that promote reintegration skills for redeployers at Ramstein AB Germany.
Ms. King has an associate degree from the Community College of the Air Force, a bachelor’s degree from University of Maryland University College, and a master’s degree from Grand Canyon University. Ms. King is currently a doctoral candidate at Grand Canyon University.
